This Airco D.H.9A was one of 400 ordered January 26, 1918 from Whitehead Aircraft Co. Ltd., Richmond, Surrey. These were serialed E701 to E1100 and powered by a 400 hp Liberty 12A. This aircraft (serial E969, c/n 229) was reconditioned under a contact issued 1925 to The de Havilland Aircraft Company. Reserialed ER969 it was operated by RAF No. 1 School of Technical Training from May 1927 to September 1927.
