"The L'Oiseau Blanc (White Dove) was designed for the attempt to fly from Paris, France, to New York, USA, non-stop for the first time, crewed by Charles Nungesser and François Coli. It was converted from a three-seat PL 4 observation aircraft of the Aéronautique Navale and was fitted with a 450 hp Lorraine-Dietrich twelve-cylinder water-cooled W-engine. Featuring a watertight fuselage, the landing gear was released after departure from Le Bourget, Paris, early morning May 8, 1927, and the aircraft would make a water-landing upon arrival at New York, unfortunately the aircraft never arrived. Despite reports of aircraft remains found in the Dominion of Newfoundland, and Maine, USA, the fate of the crew and aircraft remains undetermined."
