1924 32 cylinder, Bréguet-Bugatti 32B, (Quadimoteurs type B)

950 hp at 2100 rpm

This engine is made up of four Bugatti designed straight eight engines connected to a single propeller drive shaft. The propeller shaft turned at half of the crankshaft rpm. The reduction gears are at the rear of the engine with the propeller shaft running the entire length of the engine. One source stated that each of the four section is connected to the propeller shaft via a centrifugal clutch. So that, if one section fails, it would not stop the other three from producing power. Each of the eight cylinder section is made up of two four cylinder blocks.

Most likely this is the only 32B produced. There is a photo in the article below of it installed in a Bréguet Type XXI Leviathan. The 32A was installed and frowned in a Bréguet Type XX Leviathan.

The Quadimoteurs type B was proceeded by the type A which consist of two Bugatti U-16 engines in tandem.

There is a very good article in Old Machine Press on the Quadimoteurs type A and B.
