This B17L was one of the first Staggerwings sold to a foreign country. The following ad is from The Sportsman Pilot January 15, 1935. This B17L suffered three accidents in South Africa. After the third accident on January 9 1936, it was decided to not repair it again. The engine and instruments were returned to Beechcraft to be used in the construction of another Staggerwing, C17L, serial number 124. The new C17L departed the Beechcraft factory in January 1937. The C17L was assigned the same registration as the B17L, ZS-BBC.
