... Several times during the mission the pilot of B-17G 43-38111 failed to hold position and caused a mid-air collision with B-17G 43-38050. The left wing of #111 struck B-17G 43-38050 in the waist which broke apart near the radio room. B-17G 43-38111 turned over, spun down and crashed into a sewerage purification tank of a sugar beet factory on Hollow Road, Bury St Edmunds.
