The first of two prototypes built powered by two 920 lbs Continental-Turbomèca YJ69-T-9.
First flight October 12, 1954.
Lost during spin test. On its 205th flight, this prototype became uncontrollable during a spintest and crashed, both pilots ejected successfully.
The prototypes spun with the nose down 70°. It took five turns to recovery.
Production aircraft had the tail enlarged and extended 25" back. The up travel of the elevator was increased. A ventral fin was added. Spin strakes were added to the nose.
First production aircraft were delivered June 1956.
