First flight from Lindbergh Field, San Diego, CA 24Feb47 and landed at Muroc Field, CA. Phase 1 flight testing by Convair ended Aug47 after 16 flights. Phase 2 testing by the USAAF took place between 28Aug47 and 19Sep47 with nine flights. Project cancelled Aug47. Accepted by USAF 7Nov47 for trials work. Ferried Muroc Field, CA to Oklahoma City 11 Nov47, continuing to Wright Field, Dayton, OH 12Nov47. Used to carry out stability and control flights from West Palm Beach AFB, FL Aug48 to Jul49. Grounded by a lack of spare parts. Flown to Eglin AFB, FL Jul50 for Air proving Ground Command pneumatic system evaluation at low temperature in hangar 440 [what is now the McKinley Climatic Laboratory]. Dismantled at the end of testing Nov50. The nose section was saved and taken to the USAF Museum, Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio 13Jan51. Airframe scrapped Feb 1952.
