In February 2025 I visited the Nike Missile Site SF-88. Which is just over the Golden Gate bridge from San Francisco. The Nike was a ground to air missile designed to take out Soviet bombers. It became active in 1955 first with the Nike-Ajax then in 1959 with the Nike-Hercules which could carry a nuclear weapon. It cease to be an active missile site in 1974. One source says it was the only site that is now open to the public.
