Entwicklungsring Süd was a consortium of Messerschmitt, Heinkel and Bölkow.
VJ stood for Versuchsjäger, (German for "Experimental Fighter") preceded by VJ101C-X1 which crashed Sept 4, 1964.
Four reheated RB.145 in wing-tip pods plus two un-reheated lift-jets in fuselage.
On June 12, 1965, the second prototype, X-2, conducted its first flight.
On October 22, 1965, the X-2 performed a successful transition with a new autopilot system installed.
During 1968, development of the VJ 101 was cancelled.
Today, VJ 101 C X-2 is on public display at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
