Information from 1000aircraftphotos.com

This first FG-1 was flown on February 25, 1943. Although it was handed over to the USN the same month, the aircraft was retained by Goodyear for testing and development.

On June 23, 1943, during a demonstration test at full power the aircraft had a mechanical failure and pilot H.H. Hines made a forced landing some 10 mls (16 km) north-east of Curtiss-Wright Field (presently Cuyahoga County Airport), Cleveland, Ohio. The pilot escaped serious injuries, but the aircraft was substantial damaged and written off. Subsequently it was used as a shake test airframe for components of the next Corsair version, the F2G."
