Modified from a F4F-3. Only one modified. First fight as a seaplane was Feb 28, 1943.
The Navy had more aircraft carriers entering service soon and the Construction Battalions, aka Seabees, could build airfields in weeks. Thus the need for slow seaplane fighter disappeared. My Dad was in the SeaBees out there making airfields on islands.
