Four were built for the Navy, BuNo 131630, 131631, 131660 and 131661.
131660 and 131661 were transferred to the Air Force as YC-121F.

131630 was broken up Nov 1956.
131631 was modified by Rohr as a testbed for the Allison 501 turboprop for the Electra. Nicknamed ‘Elation’. Later fitted with T34-P-6 engines. Accident Jul 30, 1959 at Palmdale AFB CA. Bought by California Airmotive Corp. 05.60 reg as N7938C (NTU). For spares 05.60. Fuselage used to rebuild TWA L1049G MSN 4684 N7121C that was damaged at Idylwild APT, NYC Jun 25, 1959, resulting in unusual configuration with round windows. Broken up at Miami, FL 1972-73.
131660 to USAF as 53-8157
