1937 Mohawk, M.12 G-AEKW, HM503, sn 298

One and only M.12 built for Charles Lindbergh for travel around Europe. First flight by F.G.Miles was on Jan 28, 1937.

Impressed in Nov 1941 as HM503. Recondition in May of 1946. Bought by E. G. F. Lyder. Sold to B. P. Pini in July 1948.

In January 1950, on the journey home from North Africa a forced landing was made in Spain. The Miles Mohawk was not to fly again

In 1973, the Mohawk was discovered in a junkyard near Seville and was rescued by Lew Casey, a curator at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum, and taken to the United States for restoration. Casey donated the Mohawk to the Royal Air Force Museum. In October 2002, the aircraft was shipped to the United Kingdom and the museum began restoring the aircraft for static display. In August 2008, the restored aircraft was put on display at the "Milestones of Flight" exhibition at the RAF Museum Hendon. Where I took the color photos in 2011.

The Mohawk is now located at Stafford.
