In this photo it is powered by the first Chevrolet aircraft engine. Built by the Chevrolet brothers Louis and Arthur. The aircraft had engine problems on its first flight. This may have been its only flight on this engine. Aerofiles.com list the engine as a 55 hp Michigan Rover. Which is an inverted four cylinder inline.
