Photo from the collection of Townsend Ludington, wealthy aviator and entrepreneur, from Philadelphia. This WACO 9 "NIZE BABY" was modified to race in the 1926 National Air Races in Philadelphia and won the Pennysylvania Trophy (510 Cubic In. class OX-5) Class. It averaged 107.5 mph, One Mile at 121 mph. It was flown by R P Hewitt who later worked for Harold Pitcairn.
