1922 Wright NW-1, A-6544
Two Navy-Wright racers, NW-1, were order by the US Navy, A-6543 and A-6544. A-6543 was destroyed in a test flight. The NW-1 A-6544 was later rebuilt as model NW-2, a biplane seaplane racer for the Schneider races.
It was powered by the Wright T-2 engine. This was a V-12 which was expected to be a replacement for the Liberty 12

Rebuilt from the NW-1 as a biplane seaplane racer. The two blade propeller seen in this photo was replaced with a three bladed one before the races. At the Schneider races in England, the Wright T-2 engine exploded. The NW-2 flipped over but the pilot, Lt. Adolphus W. Gorton, survived..
