1920 Ansaldo San Giorgio 4E-284
This is one of the original six engines on the Italian airship Roma. After the airship was purchased by the US government, the engines were changed to Liberty. The Roma crashed in Norfolk, Virginia during test flights on February 21, 1922. The airship had a control failure and contacted high voltage lines. The hydrogen filled airship burst into flames. 34 of the crew were killed.
